1. What steps has or will the court take to ensure my safety during the COVID 19 pandemic?

• Smaller groups of jurors will be brought in at one time to ensure safe and socially distance seating in the courtroom.
• Each person arriving at the Courthouse will have their temperature taken via a hand-held touchless thermometer.
• Masks are required to be worn in the Courthouse, if you do not have one then one will be provided to you.
• Hand Sanitizer is available throughout the Courthouse.
• Plexiglass has been installed around the witness box.
• Increased cleaning and sanitization throughout the day.
• Jury deliberation will occur in a courtroom as opposed to the jury deliberation room to allow for social distance seating.
• Removal of shared snacks.  Only bottled water will be available but, jurors are permitted to bring their own water and snacks.

2. How much do I get paid to serve on jury duty?

You are compensated $10 per day plus mileage.

3. What does it entail to be a juror?

Your job as a juror is to listen to all the evidence presented at trial, then “decide the facts”-decide what really happened. You do not need special knowledge or ability to do your job. It is enough that you keep an open mind, use common sense, concentrate on the evidence presented, and be fair and honest in your deliberations.

4. How was I chosen?

You name was selected at random from voter registration and driver’s license records.

5. For questions, who do I contact?

6. How do I qualify to be a juror?

To be eligible, you must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the county in which you are to serve as juror, and you must be able to communicate in English. If you have ever been convicted of a felony, you must have had your civil rights restored.

7. Can I reschedule my jury service?

You may request to reschedule your jury service if you qualify as a juror. Your postponement request should be made prior to your currently scheduled date.

8. A summons was sent to an individual who does not reside in City of Puyallup or City of Milton or population served by Puyallup Municipal Court, what should I do?

Please return the Summons to the Court, indicating that the person does not reside in City of Puyallup or City of Milton (depending which City summons was received for) . There is no need to have the form signed.

9. Where do I submit my summons?

Fill out the entire jury summons form and mail or bring to:

10. How do I receive verification of my jury service?

A confirmation of service can be provided upon request from the clerk of the court on the day you appear for jury service.

11. Jury summons received is for deceased person.

We are sorry if we have summoned your loved one at this time and we send our condolences.  We will do our best to remove them from our database, but we need your help.  We receive and update our jury data once a year from the State.

To assist in removing your loved one from remaining in the database, please contact both the Driver’s License Office and the Voter’s Registration Office at the Auditor’s Office.

12. How do I request a disability accommodation?

Puyallup & Milton Municipal Court complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Washington State Supreme Court General Rule 33 (GR-33).

If you have a disability and have been summoned for jury service, you can request a reasonable accommodation of your disability to allow you equal access to court facilities, programs and activities. Listening devices are available, and if required, breaks can be given. ADA Free parking is available.

13. ASL interpreter needed.

If you would like to serve and need an American Sign Language Interpreter, please contact the court as soon as possible. We have to schedule their services in advance so you’re jury duty time may need to be postponed to a later date.
