On June 10th, the public is invited to help celebrate the completion of the first phase of improvements to the fields at the Puyallup Valley Sports Complex.
Last year, the Puyallup City Council approved expending $2,000,000 in lodging tax revenues to convert the fields at the Puyallup Valley Sports Complex from natural turf (dirt infields and grass outfields) to synthetic turf. Whereas before, the natural turf rendered the fields unusable between October and February, the change to synthetic turf now facilitates the use of the fields year-round for a multitude of sports, including baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse and football. It also reduces the number of rainouts, making the complex a more desirable location for tournaments.
The conversion of these fields also helps address the identified problem of insufficient playing fields. The 2014 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Comprehensive Plan Update determined a deficit of five soccer/multipurpose fields needed to meet demand.
The fields have been in use for a month now, and they look and play fantastic!
Date: Monday, June 10
Time: 6:30 pm
Place: Puyallup Valley Sports Complex, 808 Valley Ave. NW
Refreshments will be provided, and those who attend will be able to view plans for the second phase of the field improvement project.
