[ARCHIVED] Free Artist Reception Open to the Public Nov. 15th

On Thursday November 15th, the City of Puyallup will host a reception for Alice Liou, the artist currently featured in “City Gallery” on the fifth floor of City Hall.

Liou is best known for her unique style of watercolor and Sumi paintings. Her work features landscapes and creatures in their natural environments: a blue heron flying high above a treetop, a pair of hummingbirds exploring wisteria, maple trees faintly glowing through an autumn fog.

Growing up in Taiwan, Alice studied watercolor, Chinese brush painting (Sumi-e), and Chinese calligraphy under various art masters. She moved to Washington in 1982 and in recent years resumed her studies of watercolor, soft pastel, Sumi-e, and oil painting.

Always inspired by the beauty of nature, Alice creates images that express life’s energy in a variety of moments and forms. Her study of Chinese brush painting enhances her creative process as she strikes to express the essence of each subject while capturing its light and dark aspects in a balanced and harmonious way.

Alice belongs to several artist groups including the Olympia Art League, Puget Sound Sumi Artists and the Pacific Gallery Artists. She has displayed her works in solo exhibits, group exhibits and juried shows, receiving several awards. She also teaches watercolor and sumi classes as well as creating commissioned artwork.

Some of Alice’s work can be viewed at www.alicelioufineart.com. She can be reached at Lioushanti@gmail.com or (360) 446-6117.

Alice Liou snowscapeCity Gallery is free and open to the public during regular business hours. The gallery is curated by Arts Downtown, a local organization dedicated to supporting and promoting local artists with the vision of making art an essential part of the Puyallup community. City Gallery offers both established and new or emerging artists a place in which to showcase their work.
