The Puyallup City Council has established a City of Puyallup Arts & Culture Commission, a new advisory board to the council.
In addition to generally advising the city council on the subjects of art and culture in Puyallup, the new commission will further public awareness and appreciation of fine and performing arts while promoting interest and participation in artistic and cultural endeavors and projects. It will advise the council as to the acquisition of works of art for public display, and will additionally facilitate donations, grants and other support for arts and culture in the community.
The Arts & Culture Commission will have seven members, a super majority of which will be Puyallup residents. Commission members who do not reside in the city will either be artists who engage in the performing arts or exhibit a portfolio of artwork, or instructors who teach art in Puyallup.
Applications are now being accepted from those interested to serve on the commission. Persons may either apply online via the city’s website (cityofpuyallup.org) or by calling 253-841-5480. The positions are open until filled; the first review of applications will be conducted on Friday, November 4, 2016.
