Why register your historic property?
Your property may be eligible for listing on the City of Puyallup Register of Historic Places, as well as on the state or national registers.
There are many benefits to registering your historic property. You may:
Be given a prestigious “Historic Property” plaque to demarcate your site
Utilize technical assistance / resource information from the city’s historic preservation representative
Be eligible for special tax valuation for approved rehabilitation expenses
Be eligible for some exemptions from the International Building Code when rehabilitating a designated historic property
Be eligible for state or federal funds to rehabilitate your designated property
When the City of Puyallup was designated a ‘certified local government’ (CLG) by the Dept. of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) in 2011, it became eligible to apply for federal pass-through grants for local preservation projects and heritage education opportunities. The City’s Register of Historic Places allows property owners who invest in their registered structure to take advantage of valuable property tax incentives. This volunteer, incentive-based program is one way that the City can encourage preservation projects that will help protect our landmarks.
