Comic Books & Cosplay

We’ll be giving out comic books at the front of the library, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Treat your inner comic book guy to series like DC’s The New 52, Adventure Time, Hellboy, Avatar: The Last Airbender or Hello Kitty, just to name a few of the titles we’ll have available.

This year, we’re celebrating the art of cosplay. Cosplay, short for costume play, is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game.  If you’ve ever been to a convention like Emerald City Comic Con, SakuraCon, or PAX, then you’ve probably seen cosplayers!  Throughout Free Comic Book Day, we will hold several programs talking about and celebrating cosplay.

The first Free Comic Book Day was held in 2002, and the event has continued to grow over the years. We are proud to take part in this program, which gives away millions of comic books to interested readers every year. The comic format can encourage readers of all ages and interests, providing quality literature as well as a gateway for reluctant readers. Comics can cross cultural boundaries in a way that most prose works do not. The Puyallup Public Library offers comic collections for children, teens, and adults, as well as titles studying the value of reading comics.
