The Puyallup Public Library offers a variety of free classes and workshops for all ages to help you improve your skills in job-seeking, applications, and interviews. FREE One-on-One Resume Review Sessions


resume review imageThe Puyallup Public Library offers several free 20 minute Resume Review sessions to the public each month. Get advice on how to improve your resume for a more effective job search. These one-on-one personal sessions are offered by a professional with human resources and management experience. Registration is required. Call 841-5454 or visit the Reference Desk to register.

Targeted Resumes and Cover Letters

Target Resume

A targeted resume is tailored to a particular job you're applying for. Learn how to customize your 'standard' resume and cover letter to the specific job skills, abilities, and qualifications the employer is seeking.

Please bring a hard-copy of your resume and at least one job/position announcement for a job you are planning to apply for.

WorkSource Pierce staff have the unique perspective of hearing from both sides – the people interviewing for the jobs and the ones doing the hiring. Effective Resume picAre you having trouble creating a dynamic resume for your job search? This class covers the basics of how to create a dynamic, well-organized, visually appealing resume using free, software available through the Library's Job and Career Accelerator database. Participants who participate in both sessions will leave with:

  • a complete personalized resume for effective employment search
  • a free thumb drive for saving your resume
  • the option to take advantage of a FREE twenty-minute follow-up appointment with a Human Resources professional, for personal, targeted advice on their resume and job search

Mastering the Situational/Behavioral Interview

 

“Tell us about a time when you…” If those words spoken during an interview strike fear into your heart, you are NOT ALONE. Situational, or behavioral interviewing, is a technique used by leading companies like Boeing for hiring. The theory is that how someone behaved in the past will predict how they will behave in the future — past performance predicts future performance. Sound intimidating? The good news is - you CAN prepare for this kind of interview!


Facilitator Evelyn Brooks has worked as a professional career counselor for over 18 years, and currently runs the PierceWorks! Program at Pierce College.

Job listing site specializing in high-tech and computer jobs, including short-term contract work.

Indeed

Easy-to-use site that consolidates job listings from both job boards and official company web pages. Covers entire US and has option to automatically email daily listings based on job location and specific keywords in advertisement.

NW Jobs

Online version of want ads section of the Seattle Times. Focused on Seattle area but includes job listings throughout the Puget Sound region.

PierceCounty.com

Links to different commercial job-search websites in the Seattle/Tacoma area.

WorkSource Washington

Job listings throughout Washington state, browseable by county or major city, from the Employment Security Department. You do not need to be receiving unemployment or registered with WorkSource to view listings. Write and post a resume, learn about types of work and education or skills required, search for employers, job fairs, etc.
