The Digital Bookmobile is Here Today
You're invited to visit the Overdrive Digital Bookmobile today at the Puyallup Public Library. This high-tech, high-touch marvel will be open to the public from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 8th.
The Digital Bookmobile is a technology driven update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities for decades. The full customized 74-foot-long, 18-wheel tractor-trailer creates an engaging experience for readers and raises awareness for eBook-lending programs throughout North America. The Bookmobile is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems and a variety of eReading devices. Interactive displays offer details on how to borrow eBooks and more on smartphones, tablets, eReaders and other devices.
The Digital Bookmobile is powered by OverDrive, which provides the eBook-lending platform for the Washington State Library consortium serving the Puyallup Public Library. Library cardholders can visit theWashington Anytime Library 24-7 to check out eBooks and audiobooks.
Older Americans Month, 2013
Did you know that May is Older Americans Month? This year's theme is "Unleash the Power of Age", and your library is partnering with other local agencies to bring you several special events. (Click here for a full list.) Some will be at other locations, but three will be at the library:
May 1 6:30-8:30 pm Your Retirement Income: Protect it, Optimize it, Enjoy it. Guy Ellison CFP and Martin West FIC,Thrivant Financial.
May 11 1-5 pm Rock and Read. Older citizens read STORIES that ROCK to kids-- and kids at heart.
May 17 10 am-noon Community Cafe. Provide input on how communities can be more elder-friendly and livable for all ages, which will be included in the 2014 update to the current four-year Area Plan developed by Pierce County Community Connections Aging and Disability Resources.
