Adult Summer Reading

So now that the World Cup is over and the Mariners are 20 games back from first place we can get back to concentrating on our own Adult Summer Reading Game Board. The participation in the game has been terrific so far and we have lots of happy coffee card winners.

A couple people have asked about reading lists. There are many great suggestions available on our list of Recommended Websites under the Books & Book Group Resources category. In addition to these resources, I found this incredibly diverse list taken in a poll last summer by National Public Radio called the 100 Best Beach Reads Ever.

It’s kind of an interesting list…For instance, I’ve never considered Anna Karenina a “beach read” and we’ve never seen Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling on the same reading list. It’s a great list so if you’re looking for something different to read, check it out. There’s still plenty of time to get in the game and be a winner with our Adult Summer Reading contest. ...

Finally—summer is here. With the weather we’ve been having, I thought it would never come. With the summer season comes Puyallup Public Library’s Summer Reading programs. We all know how important these programs are for children and teens in terms of maintaining reading skill levels and literacy achievement. And they are FUN!!!

But hey, where does this leave the adults, you ask? We don’t want to leave you out because adults are summer readers, too. ...

Storytellers

Are you curious about storytelling? Fireside Story League members tell
stories to both adults and children, in all sorts of places. Come and
hear some stories at their monthly meetings at Puyallup Public Library
at 6:30 pm on March 8, April 12, and May 10. -- and if you think you
might be interested in being a storyteller, stay for a business
meeting afterward.
