"I never saw a purple cow,
I never hope to see one.
But I can tell you anyhow-
I'd rather see than be one!"
That poem by Gelett Burgess was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Something about its silliness just appealed to me. My grandma got a kick out of it, too, so I gave her a vase in the form of a purple cow, which she treasured because it was something we shared.
April is National Poetry Month. Do you have a favorite poem, or a favorite poet? Check out the "Poet Tree" in the lobby at the library. You can write a few lines from your favorite poem and hang it on the tree. And while you're at the library, we have plenty of poetry books you can enjoy, too!
