Feb. 23, 2010 at 9:14pm Library Facing Budget Cuts

The Puyallup Public Library is facing a 10% budget cut for 2010.

Like many governments across the nation, the City of Puyallup has a budget shortfall and some city services were cut, including dollars from the Puyallup Public Library’s 2010 budget.  Our budget was reduced by $125,000.  One of the effects of this budget cut is a reduction of our materials budget by 30%, from $239,000 to $164,000. In addition we reduced our budget in staff training, repairs and maintenance and purchase of equipment to make up the other $50K.   Making these cuts will be difficult and it will have an impact on everything we buy this year.  Basically, we will buy less.  Because of that,  we will not be purchasing all the requests you, our customers, submit.   That said, staff is here to provide smart and contemporary library services the best way we know how:  the involvement of dedicated staff, volunteers, Board and Friends of the Library.
