Last year, in 2010, I wrote a blog about the Library's budget and it was not a pretty sight. We lost 30% of our materials budget and several staff positions through attrition. Our story was not much different from other City departments...we all faced reduced budgets and staff. This year is better.

We did it....we asked and you gave. As I mentioned in an earlier post, our chimes broke in our clock tower and due to a tight budget, we decided to come to the community to ask for your donations. The community contributed over $1200 and service clubs came up with the rest. A special thanks goes to the Puyallup Kiwanis, Puyallup Lions, the Puyallup Library Foundation and Altrusa. Thanks Puyallup. We all love the sound of the chimes in the park!
Donate to Fund Library Chimes
Next time you are in the park and hear the chimes in the library tower, think about how it makes you feel. Now think about what it would be like without hearing that sound. Your life would not change much, but there is an emotional "ahhhhh" when you hear the chimes. Sounds like this build memories that last a life time.
Now that the Puyallup Library building is almost ten years old, things are starting to break. About a year ago the computer that runs our chimes broke and could not be replaced. Given the economy, we explored options and a company loaned us chimes while we determined whether there were city dollars to pay for the chimes. Given the economy, I felt we need to buy books rather than replace the chimes.
We now have an opportunity to buy the loaned chimes and need to raise $2750. So far, community service groups have donated money: Puyallup Kiwanis $500; Puyallup Lion's Club $100; Sunriser Kiwanis $100; Puyallup Library Foundation $500, and citizens $68.
We need your donation to keep the chilmes in the library. We have until Aug 30 to raise additional funds for these chimes. Any donations will be accepted. Call with any questions at 841.5452. Checks can be made out to the Puyallup Library Foundation.
Help the Foundation keep Puyallup memories alive for the next generation!
