 The Puyallup Public Library has joined Library Ideas’ network of public library websites that offer access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. The service will allow the Puyallup Public Library to increase the size and diversity of its music collection by offering access to hundreds of thousands of songs.

Under the terms of the agreement, registered card holders of the Puyallup Public Library can download three Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each week at no direct cost via The library will underwrite the purchase of the music.

Feb. 27, 2012 at 5:09pm Music OFF the Shelves

The fourth in the series of pre-concert talks called Music Off the Shelves, will be presented at 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 28th at the Puyallup Library. The talks are sponsored by the Puyallup Public Library and Northwest Sinfonietta.

Designed for music lovers of all ages, Music Off the Shelves showcases the music offered during the 2012 NW Sinfonietta season. The February 28th presentation by Dr. Kenneth Owen, Professor of Music at Pierce College, will provide the story behind one of the greatest violin concertos ever composed, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Music by Beethoven and Schubert’s Symphony #4 will also be discussed for your enhanced music experience. Whether you're a concert ticket holder or just someone who enjoys classical music, these free programs are for you. Music by all three composers will be performed by the Northwest Sinfonietta on March 18th at the Pioneer Park Pavilion.

Music OFF the Shelves, our series of pre-concert talks with the NW Sinfonietta returns on Tuesday, January 24th at 7:00 PM. Thomas Goleeke, Director Emeritus of the Voice and Opera Department, University of Puget Sound, will present the background for some Puccini’s most famous operas such as Madame Butterfly, La Bohème and Tosca.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one this area’s foremost scholars discuss the artistry, romance, and passion of Puccini’s music. The Northwest Sinfonietta will be performing Puccini Opera Scenes at the Pioneer Park Pavilion on February 12th.

The Library’s Music Off the Shelves series of free pre-concert talks, presented by the Northwest Sinfonietta, continues on Tuesday, October 25th at 7:00 PM. Designed for music lovers of all ages, Music Off the Shelves focuses on the music of upcoming Northwest Sinfonietta concerts. On Tuesday evening, Dr. Kenneth Owen, Professor of Music, Pierce College, will be sharing the story behind the music of composers, Salieri and Mozart. If you enjoy music, this is a "don't miss" program.

The Music Off the Shelves series of free pre-concert talks offers its first program Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 pm in the library’s South Meeting Room. Music lovers of all ages will not want to miss Christophe Chagnard, Music Director of the Northwest Sinfonietta, as he offers an engaging presentation of the story behind the music of Brahms Piano Concerto No.2. The concerto will be performed at the Pioneer Park Pavilion on October 16th by the Northwest Sinfonietta. Tuesday evening's interactive presentation and talk will give those in attendance new insight and background to this familiar concerto. Music Off the Shelves pre-concert programs are free to the public.
