Jul. 24, 2009 at 3:59pm Master the Art of Reading – Adult Summer Reading Program

Our Adult Summer Reading Program is off to a terrific start. Four winners so far in our weekly drawings for a $5.00 gift card from Forza and lots of entries. You can be a winner, too.

Just fill out an entry form for every book you read or listen to and drop it in the entry box near the Friends Book store on the first floor. You can also be a winner by taking the 10 BOOK CHALLENGE. If you read ten books and submit your list, you will automatically qualify for a Forza gift card. All entries will be submitted for drawing at the end of the program for a $50.00 gift card from Borders.

Some of the recent books I can heartily recommend: The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister. This is a terrific debut novel by a Seattle author who recounts a season of cooking classes and how the pleasures of good food, lovingly prepared, can create new experiences and enduring relationships. Moving from cooking to thrillers, David Ignatius has a new spy novel out and it kept me glued to my seat. The Increment is a terrific read for those who like realistic CIA spy stories. This one involves special operations mixed with U.S. politics in Iraq. Finally, one from 2001, Year of Wonders: a novel of the Plague by Geraldine Brooks. Brooks is one of the best historical fiction writers in the country and this book will not fail to amaze you as you enter the world of a 17th century English village hit by the dreaded pestilence known as "the plague."

Now it's your turn: Tell us what you're reading. Share your best and give us a little review of what's on your list this summer.
