District 3 - Don Malloy

Councilmember

Don Malloy has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to service, community and family.  Don has served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor during his 16 years of service on the Puyallup City Council.  Don was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Washington State Forensic Investigation Council. He has served as a Board Member of the Puyallup School Foundation,  a member of the Puyallup Kiwanis, and member and former president of the Northwest Trek Foundation. His past contributions to the community also include serving as a Board Member of the Alliance Against Domestic Violence, eight years on the Puyallup Board of Adjustment, and President of the Manorwood Homeowners Association.

Don is a graduate of San Diego State University. He received a master's degree in International Relations from the University of Arkansas and  later completed additional graduate studies to obtain a degree in School Administration at the University of Puget Sound.  Don retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after completing twenty  years of service in the United States Air Force. He was awarded the Bronze Star for  his service as a staff officer in Saigon and as a radar station commander in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Subsequently, he served four years as the commander of a classified Air Force Unit in Berlin, Germany, during the Cold War.

Don's commitment to education and our youth are reflected in his teaching assignments during his Air Force career and later years. He served  with distinction as an Assistant Professor at North Carolina A & T State University, History Instructor at Glendale Community College, History Instructor at Fort Steilacoom Community College, Aerospace Instructor at Washington High  School, and Principal and Vice Principal at Ferrucci Junior High School in Puyallup.  Don and his late wife Ivonette were married for over 50 years.  Throughout all of their travels and responsibilities, their love for family--four children and four grandchildren--was their most defining characteristic.
