Rick Hansen first served on the Puyallup City Council from 1980 to 1988. During that time he had the honor and privilege of serving as District 2 Councilman and Mayor Pro-Tem.
Rick has served the community as a member and as chairman of the following Boards: Puyallup Chamber of Commerce, Puyallup Main Street Association and the Korum Family YMCA. He has restored/rehabilitated three Historical Puyallup Buildings among other projects in the downtown area. Rick served 10 years on the Pierce County Economic Development Board.
Rick proudly served in the United States Air Force (3 years active duty and 2 years active National Guard) during the Vietnam war. In addition, he currently serves as an Honorary Commander of the 62nd AMS at McChord Air Force Base.
He received his BA in Business Administration at the University of Washington and did post graduate work at Chapman College. Rick is currently a business consultant and has over thirty years starting and growing multiple businesses. He also had large involvement and interest in the international shipwreck salvage community.
Rick has been a resident of Puyallup since 1979, and he has been married for 35 years to his wife, Karen Hansen, Executive Director of Communications with the Puyallup School District. Rick and Karen have four grown children, Gina, Angela, Erik, and Darren, who have all attended schools in the city of Puyallup.
His personal view is to strive to make a difference in Puyallup by serving with hard work and good listening skills. Rick works vigorously at including the voices of all Puyallup residents and business persons as part of our regular decision-making processes.
