At Large - Kathy Turner

Mayor

Kathy Turner was first elected to the city council in 1993, and was subsequently re-elected in 1997, 2001, and 2005.  In 2007 she was elected to serve as Councilmember At-Large, a position serving the entire City of Puyallup community.   Kathy served two terms as Mayor from 2002 through 2005 and two terms as Deputy Mayor.  She was active on various boards and commissions prior to the city council, including the Parks & Recreation Board and the Planning Commission, where she served as Chair.   Kathy was one of the first women inducted into the Fort Lewis Civilian Hall of Fame in 2006.

Kathy currently serves on the following boards:

Memorial and Veteran's Day Committees
Association of Washington Cities Board of Directors
Puyallup Tribe Community Contribution Committee
Vice Chair of the Pierce County 2060 Housing Funding Committee
State Representative on the National League of Cities Public Safety Policy Committee

Kathy has also been recognized for her service with the following awards:

Congressional Recognition for Outstanding Community Service
Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award

A Puyallup resident since 1974, Kathy retired from a successful 27 year career as a real estate agent.  During her career she received the 1997 Realtor Award for Community Service for Pierce County and the 1998 Community Service Award for the State of Washington.  Kathy and her husband Gary, a retired Puyallup Deputy Fire Marshall, reside in southwest Puyallup.  Their daughter Angelic graduated from Puyallup High School and is currently an attorney working for the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

Kathy's vision for the City includes maintaining current community values and standards, supporting the revitalization and investment of downtown, and providing a safe and comfortable atmosphere for all citizens to reside.  "My commitment is to our community," Kathy says.
