City of Puyallup

Kathy Turner was selected by the Council to serve as Mayor 2010 through 2011.  She was first elected to the city council in 1993, and was subsequently re-elected in 1997, 2001, and 2005.  In 2007 she was elected to serve as Councilmember At-Large, a position serving the entire City of Puyallup community.   Kathy served two terms as Mayor from 2002 through 2005 and two terms as Deputy Mayor.  She was active on various boards and commissions prior to the city council, including the Parks & Recreation Board and the Planning Commission, where she served as Chair.   Kathy was one of the first women inducted into the Fort Lewis Civilian Hall of Fame in 2006.  She is a Silver Certificate-Leadership Executive of the National League of Cities and holds an Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership of the Association of Washington Cities.

Kathy has also been recognized for her service with the following awards:

A Puyallup resident since 1974, Kathy retired from a successful 27 year career as a real estate agent.  During her career she received the 1997 Realtor Award for Community Service for Pierce County and the 1998 Community Service Award for the State of Washington.  Kathy and her husband Gary, a retired Puyallup Deputy Fire Marshall, reside in southwest Puyallup.  Their daughter Angelic graduated from Puyallup High School and is currently an attorney working for the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C.

Kathy's vision for the City includes maintaining current community values and standards, supporting the revitalization and investment of downtown, and providing a safe and comfortable atmosphere for all citizens to reside.  "My commitment is to our community," Kathy says. 

The Mayor's office is located on the 5th floor of city hall, and Kathy holds open office hours most Thursdays from 10am - 4pm.  No appointment is necessary to drop in during these Thursday hours.  The first Thursday of each month she hosts "Coffee with the Mayor" at 10am at the Puyallup Activity Center (next door to Forza’s Coffee in downtown Puyallup).
