Mayor/City Council

The current council is composed of:  
District I : John D. Knutsen, Nicole Martineau

District III : Kent Boyle, Don Malloy
At Large : Kathy Turner  

Every two years the members of the City Council select from among themselves, one council member to represent the city as Mayor and one council member to act as Deputy Mayor.

City Council Goals
  • Serve as an open and honest provider of information.
  • Assure a high level of public safety and the health and welfare of our citizens.
  • Maintain or improve the city's infrastructure and facilities.
  • Maintain and improve the city transportation system, to include planning and coordination with other governmental and private entities.
  • Effectively manage expenditures, while seeking to increase traditional revenue sources and pursue alternative sources.
  • Evaluate programs, regulations, and practices to provide a high level of service to the community.
  • Actively promote Puyallup's economic development and redevelopment opportunities while maintaining the essence and character of our community.

    In its budget discussions, the City Council also set priority projecs and programs which fall under specific goals as outlined above.
Citizen Participation

Citizen participation is welcomed at city council meetings.  Citizens may speak on any topic of their choice during the citizen participation portion of the regular council meeting agenda.  Each speaker has three minutes.  The Council has also opened citizen comments during Council work session meetings.  Each citizen will be allowed two minutes to speak on the topics discussed at city council work sessions.  Citizens are also encouraged to speak at city council public hearings.  If you would like to speak at a city council meeting, please fill out a sign-in sheet with the City Clerk prior to the meeting.
