  1. Dedication of Monument to Medal of Honor Recipient Staff Sergeant Ronald J. Shurer

December 6, 2019, 3:30 PM @ Rogers High School auditorium

Rogers High School students and staff will honor Staff Sergeant Ronald J. Shurer, U.S. Army, retired, with a monument to be dedicated on Friday, December 6th at 3:30 p.m. at Rogers Highs School. The ceremony is open to the public. Shurer graduated from Rogers in the Class of 1997. Staff Sergeant Shurer received the Medal of Honor, our nation's highest military decoration, in October 2018 from the President on behalf of the Congress and American people. The Puyallup Valley VFW Post 2224 spearheaded a fundraising campaign to honor Staff Sergeant Shurer with a monument to serve as an example for students and the community at large of the service and sacrifice military members may give when called upon to defend our country. Their successful effort was made possible by significant donations from the South Hill Puyallup Rotary Club, Veterans United Home Loans, and individual donations from veterans, community members and organizations.
