Two private church/schools have recently been permitted for major renovations and expansions. The 7th Day Adventist constructed 32,000 square feet of new school space and 25,000 square feet of new church space in 2008 and Cascade Christian will be adding 54,000 square feet of new junior high classroom space in 2010.
Pierce College currently employs over 100 full-time and another 100 people part-time at its Puyallup campus. Recent enrollment has been approximately 2,900 students. As part of its long-term expansion, Pierce College has continued its regular facility upgrades. In 2004, the College constructed approximately 20,000 square feet of support buildings and a new 500-space parking lot. A new campus day care center and college access drive were constructed in 2006. In early 2008, the City approved a new Pierce College Master Plan, with long-term plans for the college to eventually expand to a student population of 10,000. Initial campus projects under the Master Plan include a new Health Education/Recreation building (16,000 square feet) that opened in 2008 and a state-of-the-art Arts & Allied Health Sciences Building (62,000 square feet), which was constructed in 2009-2010 and will be open for educational use in Fall, 2010.
Puyallup High School is pursuing a master plan to incorporate approximately 146,000 square feet of new classroom space, library and swimming pool over the course of the next 10 – 15 years depending on the outcome of proposed bond measures. City Council approved the Master Plan in 2010.
