Retail BusinessesIf your business is located inside the city limits you will need a Standard Business License. If your business is located outside the city limits, you may contact Pierce County at (253) 798-7445.
If you are unsure whether your address is a City of Puyallup address or a Pierce County address you may call the City Clerk's Office at 253-841-4321 for an address verification. Contractors and sub-contractorsIf your business is based inside the city limits you will need a Standard Business License. If you operate your business from your home you will also need to complete a home occupation business license questionairre.
If your business is based outside the city limits and you have work inside the city limits you will only need a Standard Business License. Mobile Type BusinessesIf your business is based inside the city limits you will need a Standard Business License and a home occupation business license Standard Business License and the Home Occupation Questionairre.
If your business is based outside the city limits and you have work inside the city limits you will only will need to have a Standard Business License.

Temporary StandsAny temporary stands (or any temporary businesses locating in a parking lot) operating no more than 30 days per year are considered a temporary business and will need to apply for a Temporary Stand Permit.
Commercial businesses are limited to 30 days per year for off-site outdoor sales. Temporary stands or businesses are only allowed on commerically zoned property. Per the Puyallup Municipal Code, they are not allowed on property zoned residential. General Business InformationThe business license fee is a yearly fee based upon the number of employees: full time, part time, owners, managers, and supervisors. If your business is located outside the city limits and you are conducting business within the city limits, then your fee will be based upon the number of employees working inside our City limits. Penalties of $250.00 will be assessed for any delinquent business license renewals after January 31st. After February 28th the penalties are increased to $500.00.
