Subject: Project Acceptance: Library Back-up Generator Project
Presenter: Mark Palmer
Department: Public Works

Information
Recommended Action
Approve and accept the work completed by Tacoma Diesel & Equipment Inc. for the installation of a 60KW stand-by generator at the Puyallup Library.
Background
When the Library was built, a computer room was constructed which is the hub of the City’s downtown computer and telephone systems. When power was lost to the Library, Facilities staff moved a generator to the alley behind it to provide power. By the time the generator was set up, the battery backup for the systems in the computer room had failed, shutting down all of the Internet, Intranet and telephone service to the City's downtown buildings.

The Emergency Management Department purchased a used 60 KW natural gas powered generator with low hours to provide backup power to the city's downtown computer and phone systems. The generator was permanently installed behind the Library along with natural gas service and a transfer switch which will automatically activate the standby generator when it senses the loss of utility power.
