Subject: Hazard Mitigation Plan
Presenter: Carolyn Cockrum
Department: Emergency Management

Information
Recommended Action

Approve by resolution the updated Hazard Mitigation Plan as approved by the State of Washington and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Background
The City is required to maintain an up-to-date Hazard Mitigation Plan by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 which was passed as Public Law 106-390. In addition, Section 322 Mitigation Planning  44 CFR Chapter I, Part 201 outlines the key responsibilities of local government in carrying out section 322.

The City's mitigation plan in effect since 2004 has been an addendum to the Pierce County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Pierce County Plan and Puyallup Plan's addendum have expired and both agencies have been granted funding for the preparation of updated plans. Pierce County has completed the update of the county's plan, and Puyallup has developed its own stand-alone Hazard Mitigation Plan.

In accordance with CFR Title 44 Chapter 1 Part 201 Sec 201.6 and the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 (DMA 2000), it is requested that the elective body approve a resolution adopting the Hazard Mitigation Plan.
