Clay soils? No problem. The May 2011 rain gardens went in-the-ground without any trouble. Even though the project neighborhood, located just south of the Puyallup Fair Grounds on 6th and 7th Street SW - see a map of the project sites (PDF) - is full of clay and less-than-desirable soils, proper designs and planning created successfully-functioning rain gardens for the homeowners to enjoy.
This installation event was again supported by Pierce Stream Team with coordination of volunteer efforts. For this installation, the City focused on spreading the knowledge of rain gardens and, through a RFQ process, selected a new landscape contractor. By working with a variety of local companies the City hopes to expand the selection of knowledgeable contractors that citizens can turn to when installing rain gardens on their own.
